JeannieJEANNIE MUELLER, 

PA-C, RDN, CDCES, RYT, Chief Medical Officer

Jeannie Mueller is the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for River Valley Family Health Centers – a Federally Qualified Health Clinic in western Colorado. She has been at River Valley since December 2012 and is responsible for overseeing all medical providers, behavioral health therapists and Nursing/Clinical staff. Her mission aligns with the clinic to ensure that all patients no matter their ability to pay are given high quality health care. She has over 23 years of experience in healthcare. She is a Physician Assistant (PA-C), Registered Dietitian (RD), and Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE). She holds a Master’s Degree in Science from A.T. Still University. She is a 6th generation native of Colorado and has spent the last 20 years on the Western Slope providing care to underserved populations. Jeannie has completed certification in order to prescribe buprenorphine medications for opioid dependency treatment through SAMHSA Center for Substance Abuse Treatment. As a National Health Service loan repayment recipient and HRSA Leadership Award recipient who choose to stay in rural Colorado, she understands the barriers to health care and wishes to be part of the solution. When not at work, she likes to hike and fish with her border collie, Patrick and her husband. She also teaches yoga on the weekend. She is proud to be part of the River Valley FQH team and embraces the quadruple aim of better outcomes, enhanced patient experience, reduced cost and improved clinician work life.

RachelRACHEL STRANATHAN,  

PA-C, CDE, Clinical Director

Rachel received her undergraduate degree from the University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo, (now CSU-Pueblo) and her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies from Pacific University at Forest Grove, Oregon. She has been a Physician Assistant for 15 years with experience in orthopedics and primary care. She is also a Certified Diabetic Educator (CDE) and enjoys educating patients on diabetes and their health. Rachel has completed certification in order to prescribe buprenorphine medications for opioid dependency treatment through SAMHSA Center for Substance Abuse Treatment. She started with Olathe Medical Clinic which has evolved into River Valley Family Health Centers as a Federally Qualified Health Center. Rachel and her husband have three wonderful children who enjoy the great outdoors of Colorado.

KARIE LONG, PA-CKARIE LONG,

PA-C

Karie came to River Valley Family Health Centers after five years in Glennallen, Alaska, where she provided primary care in a rural community health center and in urgent care. She attended Wake Forest University School of Medicine in North Carolina where she received her Master of Medical Science, Physician Assistant Studies. She especially loves working in primary care for the opportunity to build relationships with her patients and to invest in their healthcare long term. She is also certified by the Federal Carrier Safety Administration to perform DOT physicals. She is bilingual (English and French) and has enjoyed the opportunity to further her Spanish through working at River Valley. She also enjoys traveling and spending quality time with her husband, two sons, and German Shepherd, Axel. Karie’s outdoor adventures include hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, camping, canoeing, fishing, cross country skiing & snowmobiling.

ANA CALDERÓN,  FNPANA CALDERÓN, 

FNP-BC

Ana is a Family Nurse Practitioner who graduated from Regis College with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, magna cum laude and with a Master of Science in Nursing, with Family Nurse Practitioner as the specialty area, from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. She also completed a 12-month Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Primary Care Fellowship at Peak Vista Community Health Centers. Ana is originally from Mexico City and is bilingual. Her passion is to serve the underserved in our community.  In her spare time, she enjoys camping and hiking with her husband and children. She also enjoys traveling, road trips and going to the beach in Mexico.

RosROSALIND RAFANELLI, 

MD

Dr. Rosalind Rafanelli received her Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Florida in Gainesville. With over 25 years’ experience in family practice in Delta and Grand Junction, Dr. Roz, brings her experience and expertise to River Valley as a primary care provider. Her medical interests are adult preventative care, wellness and healthy aging. She grew up in Florida and while she still sails, she enjoys spending time in the Colorado mountains with her husband and two grown daughters where she hikes, fly fishes and gardens.

Bright SUSAN BRIGHT,

MD

While Dr. Bright has spent the last four years doing hospital-based family medicine in Thermopolis, Wy., she is no stranger to the Delta area since it has been their family’s home for 19 years. After she completed her residency in Family Medicine at Northern Colorado Family Medicine in Greeley, she joined the Delta Family Practice and worked in Delta for 14 years prior to going to WY. Raised in Virginia, Dr. Bright graduated from the College of William and Mary with a double major in English & History. It was while teaching school in rural Kenya, that she saw the importance of access to health care. When she was completing her pre-med course work in the US, she worked for CARE, Africa Fund, and Human Rights Watch. She graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine. She enjoys caring for patients at various stages of their lives, and has a passion for women’s health. In her spare time, she runs, bikes, hikes, and skis.

ChristineCHRISTINE ACKERMAN,

Christine is a family practice nurse practitioner, board certified through the American Academy of Family Nurse Practitioners (AANP), with over 13 years of nursing experience. She comes to River Valley from Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she has practiced urban medicine in the family practice and urgent care settings for the past 6 years. Her philosophy of care is the provision of holistic, individualized care that focuses not only on patient conditions, but also on the effects of illness on the lives of patients and their families. She strives to engage patients to act as the primary leader in their own care and well-being through prioritizing prevention, wellness, and patient education. She is experienced in newborn and pediatric care, women’s health, acute care, and family medicine.

Lacey Estes is a PA-C who graduated from St. Francis University at Loretta, Pennsylvania with a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. Lacey is a Colorado native and grew up on the Front Range before moving to Montrose. Lacey truly enjoys the integrated healthcare setting of River Valley because it is wonderful to provide comprehensive care to her patients. Lacey enjoys working in a family health clinic because she can partner with her patients through their healthcare journey. When not working, Lacey enjoys working in her garden, reading, and fitness. 

KimKIM TURECEK,

FNP, BC

Kim Turecek is a Family Nurse Practitioner certified to provide family-centered healthcare to patients of all ages. She began her career in wellness and health promotion and has gained extensive experience from working as a Nurse Assistant, an EMT, as well as a wellness promotion specialist. Kim has gained 23 years’ experience in the nursing field, with the last 12 years as a Nurse Practitioner caring for her patients in a family and urgent care clinic. Kim strives to maintain long lasting relationships with her patients and believes that the provider/patient relationship requires caring, teamwork and in-depth communication. Her desire is to enhance a positive healing experience while encouraging health promotion and disease prevention. Kim is a Colorado native and loves all the state has to offer. When not at work, she enjoys time with her family and dog. She has recently moved from the Denver area to pursue a quieter lifestyle on the Western slope. She loves all this area has to offer and plans to continue frequent hiking, skiing and paddle boarding whenever possible. She will start seeing patients in February 2024.

Mat MMATHEW MCCULLOUGH,

Mathew is well known in Delta County after serving the local community for the last four years. He is a graduate of the Red Rocks Physician Assistant Program and enjoys building provider-patient relationships. His special interest is working with older adults.

KammKARL KAMM,

PA

Karl received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University, and after working as a paramedic in northern New Mexico, completed the physician assistant program at Oregon Health and Science University. He has worked for the Indian Health Service and done a combination of family and emergency medicine in Durango, Colorado. Recently, Karl has also staffed remote clinics in Alaska.  After living in Silverton for the past decade, Karl and his family have moved to the Montrose area and he is excited to provide family medicine at River Valley health center.

Dr. Donna Jin received her medical degree from Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and completed her residency at Alaska Family Medicine Residency. She enjoys caring for all members of a family and looks forward to partnering with patients to help them achieve their health goals. In her free time she enjoys exploring the mountains with her family and friends. 

AndrewANDREW ASTIN,

DO, Pediatrician

Dr. Andrew graduated from medical school at Campbell University in North Carolina and completed his residency in Pediatrics at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. He grew up in Delta, and he is excited to serve the children of the community that raised him. After attending Delta High School, he attended the University of Colorado at Boulder. During his time at CU, he served a two-year mission in El Salvador, where he became fluent in Spanish, and he continues to see both English and Spanish-speaking patients. He met his wife, Mallory, during college, and together they have two sons and two daughters. Outside of work, his hobbies include going on adventures with his family, learning to play the guitar, running, cycling, football, Star Wars, and Marvel movies. Dr. Andrew provides comprehensive primary care for newborns, children, and adolescents.

MonicaMONICA MCMILLON,

Monica McMillon grew up on the Western Slope of Colorado, she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Colorado Mesa University, and her FNP degree from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. Prior earning her FNP degree she worked primarily in acute care as an RN and then later in Adult/Geriatric care as an FNP.  In her free time, she volunteers with the local Partners Program and with organizations that promote animal welfare. Monica also enjoys anything outdoors, mountain biking, hiking, backpacking, canyoneering, wake surfing, skiing, camping, and gardening.

Jean graduated from Oregon Health & Science University with a doctorate in nursing practice in 2018. Prior to becoming a family nurse practitioner, Jean obtained her BA at Vassar College and BSN at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Working with patients as a medical assistant and registered nurse inspired Jean to go back to school to expand her scope of practice. For the past six years, Jean has provided full spectrum primary care in Southern Oregon at an OHSU rural medical residency clinic. Jean is excited to join the River Valley Family Health Centers team and continue to provide high quality, evidence-based care to the community. Outside of work Jean enjoys spending time with friends and family as well as running, biking and skiing.

CHELSEA PRICE,

Pharmacy Director

Chelsea serves as Pharmacy Director at River Valley.  She graduated with her Doctor of Pharmacy from Rutgers University. Chelsea is committed to providing a personal, high quality, and affordable pharmacy experience to people from all walks of life. She strives to keep the traditional mom and pop pharmacy environment that makes patients feel truly cared for. Chelsea enjoys working together with many healthcare professionals in our integrated clinic, which helps ensure the safest, most effective medication regimens for each individual. Chelsea is bilingual and thoroughly enjoys speaking Spanish each day at the pharmacy. Chelsea grew up on the beach, but now loves living in the mountains in the beautiful western slope. She likes to spend time with her family and friends, read, and get outdoors.  

Michael ShontsMICHAEL SHONTS,

Pharmacist

Michael has been a pharmacist at River Valley Family Health Centers since opening the Montrose location in Summer 2019. He completed Bachelor of Science degrees in both Chemistry and Biochemistry in 2010 from the University of Minnesota and earned a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) in 2014. Michael is a Certified Immunizing Pharmacist and compounding pharmacist and has worked in health care since 2007. When he’s not working, you can find Michael enjoying the outdoors with family and friends. His hobbies include skiing, surfing, traveling, and climbing.

StacySTACY ECKERMAN,

Pharm D, Pharmacist in Charge

Stacy Eckerman graduated from Midwestern College of Pharmacy in Glendale, AZ.  She is certified in Immunizations Administration. She practiced in the grocery chain pharmacy business prior to moving her family to Colorado. In the following years, she practiced in retail chain pharmacies. She likes the integrated care of River Valley. When she has free time, she enjoys being with her family. This includes the growth and development of her children who have recently set off to college.  She and her husband enjoy many outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, and camping. She also has a passion for livestock and the farm ranch community.  She is always open to trying new foods and cultures.

 

Steven STEVEN ABRAHAM,

Pharmacist

Steven grew up in the countryside of western NY, south of Buffalo. He attended college at Ohio Northern University where he earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2008. He moved to Denver after graduation and worked across the state as a retail pharmacist. He officially moved his home base to the Western Slope around 2015. Steven has three lively young children at home. They love getting dirty on their hobby farm, camping, fishing, and hunting. He also loves to watch a great game when time allows, no matter the sport. Go Bills!

MARISA BORCHARDT,

D.M.D., Chief Dental Director 

Marisa grew up in New Jersey and later moved to the Boston area. She received her Bachelor of Science in Human Physiology and minored in Public Health. Later she received her DMD degree from Boston University’s Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine. She is passionate about providing high quality dental care to every patient.  Marisa understands the importance of making sure health care is easily accessible and provided in a culturally respectful manner.  In her spare time Marisa enjoys distance running, snowboarding, and hiking.

 

KEVIN DAWSON,

D.D.S.

After a varied career as a teacher and practitioner, Dr. Dawson became  River Valley’s first dentist in 2018.  He set up and established the dental clinics in all three River Valley locations.   Nearing retirement, Dr.  Dawson now practices in the clinic part-time.

LizELIZABETH REED,

RDH, Registered Dental Hygienist

Liz graduated from Colorado Northwestern’s dental hygiene program in Rangely, Colorado. She has over 16 years of experience in periodontics, cosmetic and general dentistry, and previously owned a dental hygiene practice in Grand Junction, Colorado. She specializes in returning patients to optimal periodontal health in a non-judgmental, gentle and caring manner. Elizabeth grew up in Montana, but has called Delta County home for the last 25 years. She is a life long and enthusiastic Broncos fan. Between Broncos games she is an avid landscape photographer and spends most of her free time in the mountains of Colorado and the deserts of southern Utah.

Dr. Ellen Son grew up in Pennsylvania. She graduated from Albright College with a BS in Chemistry and University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine with a DMD degree. She was selected to enter the post-doctoral training program at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, NJ in General Practice Residency which emphasized treating medically complex cases as well as various specialty areas. She was a private practice owner before she moved to Colorado. She stays current with continuing education courses to advance her knowledge and skills. She is dedicated to meeting the individual needs of her patients with a focus on comfort and optimal oral health. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, biking, skiing, and camping with her husband and two kids.

TASHA GIBSON,

RDH, Registered Dental Hygienist

Tasha earned her degree in dental hygiene from Colorado Northwestern in Rangely, Colorado and has worked in the dental field since 2017. She enjoys getting to know her patients and helping them reach better oral health! She specializes in patient education and helping patients understand their oral health in relation to their overall health. She is dedicated to helping patients of all ages by performing scaling and root plainings, adult and child prophylaxis, taking radiographs, placing sealants, performing exams and applying neutral fluoride varnish. She is committed to helping you understand oral health conditions, dental procedures, and proper oral hygiene techniques. She was born and raised in Olathe, Colorado and grew up on a 600-cow dairy farm.  Tasha loves spending time on the family farm, showing her reining horses nationwide, and spending time outdoors.

She is dually credentialed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Addiction Counselor. Kitty earned her Masters of Science in Social Work from the University of Kansas. She has over 20 years of experience working in community mental health and homeless services. Kitty believes that patients are the expert in their own lives and uses a person-centered approach to help them achieve the best quality of life possible. When she isn’t working, Kitty loves to explore the surrounding mountains with her husband, daughter and dogs.

SHAUN SOWLE,

MSW, LCSW, LAC

Shaun is dually licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Licensed Addiction Counselor. She started her education at Colorado Mesa University before earning her BA in Clinical Psychology at San Francisco State University and then her master’s degree in Social Work at California State University, Sacramento. Shaun has over 25 years of experience working in community mental health.  “I find working with the integrated team at River Valley Family Health Centers very rewarding as we focus on serving the whole person.”  She is committed to assisting clients to build their “best life possible” including skills to manage anxiety, depression, addiction issues, and utilization of EMDR to help individuals resolve trauma issues.  She is a fourth generation Montrosean whose family came to the area to ranch and farm in the late 1800’s. Shaun continues to appreciate and enjoy the beauty of the area, time with family and friends, as well as growing the perfect tomato.

AMANDA BRYANT,Amanda

Amanda grew up in the south and lived all over the midwest and southwest. Amanda and her husband and two boys moved to the Western Slopes six years ago and has enjoyed it ever since. Amanda recently finished her Master’s in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling at Colorado Christian University. Amanda has worked for the local crisis walk-in center and crisis stabilization unit for the past 2 plus years. Amanda enjoys working with the adolescent and adult populations. When she is not working, Amanda enjoys hanging out with her family, friends, and chocolate lab. Amanda enjoys fishing, taking nature photos, floating on the river, and going on adventures. 

 

ROBIN HARLESS,robin

Behavioral Health Provider, MS, LPCC

Robin received her Masters in Science of Counseling from Prescott College in Arizona. She has over a decade of experience providing mental health and substance use treatment with various oppressed and marginalized populations, like at-risk youth, incarcerated offenders, survivors of domestic violence, and those experiencing homelessness and substance use. Her work includes individual and group counseling with children, adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, substance use, suicidal ideations, and severe mental distress.

Robin prefers an eclectic therapeutic approach to treatment that is always person-centered, and trauma informed. In addition, she incorporates other modalities into session like Play Therapy, Art Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT).

In her free time, Robin enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren, and exploring the outdoors. Her favorite activities include swimming, kayaking, camping, and hiking.

CrystalCRYSTAL HOELAND,

Crystal is a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate for the State of Colorado.  She is working toward her LAC (Licensed Addiction Counselor.)  She received her Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management from Franklin University and went on to receive her Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from Adams State University.  She has worked in community mental health and crisis services for the past five years.  She uses a client centered approach and believes the client is the expert.  She has lived in rural Colorado since 1994.  When not working, she enjoys traveling, dirt biking, hiking, reading, and spending time with family.

 

CORY JENKINS,

Behavioral Health Provider, MSW, CAS 

Cory recently graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver with a Master of Science in Social Work after receiving her Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Colorado Mesa University. She is currently working on requirements to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Colorado. Cory has a passion for helping people navigate the challenges of early sobriety and enjoys working with those seeking recovery from substance abuse. Cory often uses a strength- based approach which allows people to see themselves at their best in order to see their own value. During her spare time, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and reading.

ShondaSHONDA PARSONS,

BA, Case Manager

Shonda is a Florida native that moved to the Western Slope in 2004 to get away from the big city. She developed a fascination with psychology while attending Florida State College in Jacksonville after high school graduation. As a result, she has always believed that mental health stigma hinders people with disorders from seeking the help they need and deserve. Her desire was to teach her children to never give up on their dreams, so she returned to an online program at New England College to pursue her Bachelor in Psychology, graduating in 2019. After working at the Crisis Walk-In Center (CWC) in Montrose, she returned to Florida and worked as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) with children on the autism spectrum. After a stint at a lock down behavioral health unit at Baptist Hospital, she moved back to her mountains. Her goal is to advocate for destigmatization of mental illness and co-occurring Substance Use Disorders.

SarahSARAH MARGESON,

Sarah grew up in Florida where she completed her BS in psychology and MS/EdS in mental health counseling at Florida State University. Sarah moved to the Western Slope in 2015 and currently resides in Montrose, CO.  She obtained her LPC in 2017, LAC in 2019, and was certified in Acudetox in 2022. She has worked in community mental health, integrated care, and has worked with justice involved patients providing treatment to patients in Drug Treatment Court and Family Treatment Court in Delta county. Sarah is particularly passionate about addiction/MAT, LGBTQIA+, and teen patient populations and values River Valley’s approach to treating the patient as a whole. She enjoys spending time with her two cats and guinea pig, playing video games, watching horror movies, paddle boarding, doing yoga, and spending time with friends and family.
